The Conversation is a commissioned painting of a contemporary western scene with modern cowboys and an old box wagon drawn by a team of Percheron horses.
The idea for this painting came from a photo taken by the commissioning party on their ranch near the Keene Tobacco Gardens area of North Dakota, in June of 2012. It was one of those serendipitous occurrences where all of the cowboys and horses were naturally positioned in a visually interesting way. One need only be there with a camera to capture it, and that is exactly what happened.
The conversation is a moment in time, a brief snapshot of modern life on the ranch. It is also a celebration of a continued legacy. Painted draft horses, old work worn box wagons, and dramatic colorful skies evoke scenes reminiscent of the upper Midwest.
